Alexandra Joshi Imre (a staff scientist in the Nanofabrication & Devices Group) received an Outstanding ACTS Research Mentor Award for 2009 (ACTS = DOE Academies Creating Teacher Scientists).
As a mentor for Cynthia Kessel, Dr. Imre was a very thorough and patient teacher for training on the FIB instrument in the Nanolab. She is a teacher's teacher establishing a perfect balance between technique and theory, independent exercise, and guided instruction, resulting in a full understanding and an effective skill set for a very complex instrument, all within a short period of time. Few scientists have the skill and ability to teach this well.
