Post-Docs and Fellowships

Argonne National Laboratory is seeking scientists, engineers, and postdocs for the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM). As part of the National Nanotechnology Initiative, the CNM at Argonne is one of five Nanoscale Science Research Centers that the U.S. Department of Energy is launching at its national laboratories. Argonne’s CNM will advance the basic science behind nanotechnology — or molecular manufacturing, as it is sometimes called — and spur the development of products based on nanomaterials.

Plans for the Center include a wide range of advanced facilities for fabricating nanomaterials and for characterizing structural, physical and chemical properties on the nanoscale. The CNM builds on the synchrotron X-ray facilities at Argonne's unique Advanced Photon Source (APS) and on Argonne's world-class capabilities in materials science, chemistry, physics, biology, and engineering.

Argonne seeks talented, enthusiastic, scientists, and engineers in all CNM technical areas, who will participate in its growing scientific program and serve its collaborative user-engaging mission.

2008 CNM Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The Center for Nanoscale Materials seeks applicants for postdoctoral fellowships to be awarded to outstanding doctoral scientists and engineers who have received their Ph.D. in the last five years. Candidates must display superb ability in nanoscience research and show promise of becoming outstanding leaders in their research field. Fellowships are awarded for a two-year term, with possible renewal for a third year.

How to Apply

Applicants are strongly encouraged to first contact CNM staff in their areas of interest to explore possible areas of research.

To apply, send the following documents (one combined file preferred) via e-mail to the CNM User Administrator.

  1. Curriculum Vitae
  2. Bibliography of publications
  3. Bibliography of preprints
  4. Description of research interests to be pursued at the CNM, including staff contact name (2-page limit, including specifically why the resources of the CNM are critical)

In addition,

  1. It is your responsibility to arrange for at least three reference letters to be sent via e-mail to the CNM User Administrator.
  2. An optional Letter of Nomination from a CNM staff scientist who supports your candidacy for the fellowship is also encouraged.

Argonne is an equal opportunity employer.
